Meeting Numero Uno 9/19/13
Welcome to small group number two's blog! We're so happy you're joining us today. This semester will prove to be filled with very interesting topics...and a plethora of good communication skills as we work together to solve a problem on our campus! Our group members include Nick Reitberger, Tayler Wills, Anne Meier, Maddie Pingry, and Katie Wilson (hey, that's me!) We're still in the getting-to-know-each-other process. Let me tell you a little about what we've discovered thus far.
First off, everyone was at this initial meeting. That's a very good start.
As for the skills and resources that everyone brings to the table, I think we will prove to be a very organized group. Tayler said that she excels in the organizational department. Maddie said the same. Anne said that she also is very organized, but she also has skills when it comes to designing things online. This includes Photoshop, PowerPoint, etc. Nick reported to be very good at designing PowerPoint presentations...and just at presentations in general. While I am also good at organizing things, I also have very developed Devil's Advocate skills. This may not always seem like a positive attribute, but I feel that it is a quite necessary one when working in a group and trying to solve a problem. Overall, our group brings applicable and useful things to the table.
Individual expectations, by definition, are supposed to be on an individual basis, but our group came up with a list that we all feel is very important for positive and effective problem-solving. We expect that each and every group member will attend every meeting, unless prior arrangements are made and approved by the group. We all understand that life happens, though, and we are prepared to be flexible if necessary. Showing up is not all that it will take, however. Active participation is a necessity. Another important aspect is that each member do their designated work. We plan to work together to decide on the divisions of said work, and every member is expected to pull their own weight and do their best to go above and beyond. The last and possibly most important factor in having an effective group is that we all do our very best to be welcoming. It is crucial that every member feel as if they can contribute without harassment or negativity being returned.
One final order of business before this post concludes: role decisions. I was quick to take on the role of recorder/blogger. The position of leader took a little longer to fill, but Tayler finally agreed to take it on. While she has the official title, everyone said that they would all do their part in leading the group. We're such a harmonious bunch!
